From Gallery to Art Advisory: The Story of Hohenthal und Bergen

The gallery Hohenthal und Bergen was founded in 1991 by Diana Countess von Hohenthal und Bergen. Trained as a photographer and holding a master's degree in communication, she worked for a year at Galerie Klüser before opening her first gallery in Munich. In 1993 she opened a second space at Bismarckstraße 60 in Cologne, and in November 1997 a third in Berlin, on Fasanenstraße 29 in Charlottenburg, the city's traditional street of art dealers. From 1998 onwards she concentrated entirely on the Berlin gallery.

The gallery's program brought together German and international artists, both established and emerging. Diana also invited guest curators, among them Michael Corris (Punishment + Decoration), Wilfried Dickhoff (Christopher Le Brun, Jan Meier, Haralampi G. Oroschakoff), Boris Groys (Mystical Correct) and Benjamin Weill (Manifesto). A particular focus of her work was the Moscow Conceptualists, and in 1996 she co-founded the first Art Moscow fair.

In response to fundamental changes in the art market, Diana closed the gallery in 2013. Today she works in Berlin as an independent art consultant and curator. Drawing on her international network and many years of gallery experience, she organizes exhibitions in Berlin and abroad, arranges studio visits, and offers a complete service around the purchase and sale of artworks, including framing, mounting, shipping and restoration. She also advises on the management of estates and the archiving of private and public collections.
